A Purebred Siberian with an Amazing Lineage Needs a Home

Stormy is a purebred (with papers), 9-yr old Siberian cat. Her lineage is astounding. Her dad was imported from Russia and her grandfather is in the movie: Nine Lives. This beautiful lady is losing her home because of her mom's allergies.

Emotionally, Stormy is a diamond-in-the-rough. She's cranky with strangers, but she's perfection with her mom. In time, we know she'll be lovey-dovey with her new family, but they have to be patient with her.

Stormy loves to "talk" especially when she's ready for dinner. She'll do best in a quiet home with experienced cat-parent/s who will give her time to adjust and become friends. She's lived with a dog and kids, but we're not so sure she's all that happy with so much activity.

Stormy has had excellent vet care every year and just got updated on her vaccinations. She also got a (not the best) lion-cut because she does not (currently) care to be groomed.

We believe Stormy could become used to being groomed in the right home, so her luxurious coat could finally be seen. She has cute white paws and sparkling eyes. Because she's a purebred cat her adoption fee is: $250.00

MAY 14, 2017 UPDATE: Happy Mother's Day! Stormy was just adopted into a loving home!

MAY 21, 2017 UPDATE: Sadly, Stormy's adoption fell through. Her new family felt over stressed caring for a cat so Stormy is available to be adopted again. This time we are looking for EXPERIENCED CAT PARENT/S who have a quiet home and who can handle Stormy's "stormy" personality. She will be angry being re-located again and distressed but she will also calm down and seek out love as soon as she feels safe and confident in her new home. That's why we are looking for an experienced, calm, patient person or family who can finally give Stormy what she needs.

June 21, 2017 UPDATE: We believe Stormy may be in some mesure of pain due to her being front-paw declawed. She's having tests done and being evaluated to determine if she has a medical issue or a behavioral one. For now we are taking Stormy off our web site and Petfinder until we feel we have a better understanding of her needs and what her new family will need to know about her. She's in foster care in a loving home.

Our President to Speak at Cat Camp NYC!

Olson. “That’s why I’ll be heading up a roundtable storytelling session about some of our favorite rescues.”

Cat Camp is March 11-12 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street New York, NY 10011, from 11 AM to 7 PM each day. It will bring cat lovers together under one roof to celebrate all things cat and to discuss some of the most important and challenging problems facing cats today. Exhibitors will hail from around the country and there will be several adoption events and fairs taking place throughout the weekend.

There will also be special presentations including a keynote message by The Cat Daddy, Jackson Galaxy (My Cat from Hell and the Jackson Galaxy Foundation); Lil Bub (with a presentation by Bub and Mike Bridavsky); NYC Feral Cat Initiative; Kate Benjamin (Hauspanther); and other notable personalities.

“There are thousands of cat rescues, but few ever write such moving stories as featured on Robin’s blog. It’s a huge thrill for her to be included in such a group of cat-centric celebs.” says the group’s Vice President, Sam Moore. “This is a fun-filled event for any cat lover of any age.”

“This is a great opportunity to inspire and educate people to join our rescue community and I’m incredibly honored to take part.” Olson explains. “I’m also a bit nervous, but my goal is to focus on stories about cats like Fred, who was the Mascot of our Kitties for Kids program, which helped local kids find their smiles after the tragedy here in Newtown; and about Chester, the 21-year old cat I located at the very last minute, after he’d been missing for nearly a week. I warn attendees to have tissues available when they hear some of these stories, but only to dry happy-tears.”

Be Part of Our Rescue Mission: The Feral50.

Kitten Associates was founded to help cats and kittens who are in dire situations, like high-kill shelters on "death row" or facing a tough life on the streets. We're a small organization but we always help cats and people however we can.

Two weeks ago we learned that there was a huge feral cat colony in neighboring Waterbury, CT. There were estimates of it ranging from 43 to over 60 cats. It's winter and we're taking our first "break" from rescue in six years, but with this news we decided not to relax and hope someone else would help these cats.

We've teamed up with a number of rescues, trappers and other volunteers to help raise funds, trap cats, get injured or sick ones treatment, get them ALL spayed/neutered, and relocate friendly or young cats into rescues to find forever homes.

It's an unbelievably complicated, difficult process run by people who have never worked together before. Everyone is working very hard but we can't do this without the financial support of our community.

To date we have already TNR'd (Trap, neutered, returned), 10 cats. Of those 10, 1, nicknamed Waterbury1, was so sick with a horrific gum infection, that she was near death when we rescued her. She got the care she needed and is being adopted into a loving home. Some of the cats appear to be abandoned strays, and others, who are truly feral, will be returned or we will carefully relocate them to barn homes. Every cat will be tended to, vetted and as many as possible will be placed into rescue to find a loving forever home if that's what is best for them.

What we need:

• Help transporting cats from Waterbury, CT to Stratford, CT to get their vetting done. (on as needed basis)

• Someone strong with a van or pickup truck that can make one trip to deliver feral cat shelters from Newtown, CT to Waterbury, CT (one trip only)

• FUNDS to provide Spay/Neuter can be directed to Nutmeg Clinic. Please add a note with your donation that the funds go to "Kitten Associates/Feral50"

• FUNDS to provide VET CARE beyond simple spays/neuters. Some cats have upper respiratory tract infections. One has a limp that needs tending to and others may have worse injuries or illness. We just raised $1400 for Waterbury1, but we have nothing left for any other cats who need help.

UPDATE: 2/7/17 to date we have trapped 32 cats. Some were very sick and are getting care. A few are friendly and we're finding homes for those kitties. We still have a long way to go and still are in dire need of help to move two feral shelters from Newtown, CT to Waterbury (just one trip with a pickup). We also need funds and help transporting trapped cats to Nutmeg Clinic in Stratford, CT from either Waterbury or possibly Newtown. We wish you all a loved, joyful, delightful holiday season.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, adopted and donated (or all three) to our 100% volunteer, home-foster network, cat and kitten rescue. We couldn't save lives without each and every one of you doing your part and for that we're very grateful.

For the first time since we opened in 2010, and after giving up our holiday each year, to help our community heal after the tragedy in our town, we've decided that this year we need to take time for ourselves to rest and renew our love for what we do.

With that in mind, we will be CLOSED from Friday, December 23, 2016 to January 1, 2017. We will NOT be responding to e-mails or calls during that time. Of course, if you've adopted from us and have any behavioral difficulties or other non-life-threatening issues with your cat, you can always reach us. Any vet-related emergency, as always, please contact your vet or local emergency vet hospital directly.

Any adoption inquiries will be handled after the first of the New Year.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to saving more lives in 2017!

Saving Sweet Annie

Annie may be one of the sweetest, cutest kittens we've ever rescued, but now she needs your help. Two months ago Annie had to have emergency surgery to repair an intussusception, which is a life-threatening blockage of the intestinal tract. Annie did really well post-surgery and we thought all we had to do was focus on finding her, and her brother, Andy, their forever home.

But something wasn't quite right with Annie. She was low energy, though she ate well and didn't show any outward signs of illness. Just to be sure, we took Annie to the Vet to find out she is both anemic and has high white blood cells, which means there is some sort of infectious process going on.

Annie requires a lot more vet care and most urgently, an ultrasound of her abdomen to find out if this problem is related to her surgery or something entirely different.

Regardless of what it is, we are committed to making sure Annie gets the care she needs, but we can't do that without YOU. We are 100% Volunteer organization and run entirely by donations from people like you.

Now We Are Six

When we opened Kitten Associates in 2010, we had no idea that one day we'd be able to say that our little rescue has helped save over 400 lives, most of them, the most fragile of all-kittens.

We haven't had a day off, taken a vacation or had a quiet home since. It's a lot of work to keep the doors open and to keep bellies full, but somehow with the grace, compassion and love of our many supporters, it all comes together.

Helping people is also a big part of what we do. We've recently opened our Cat Behavior Counseling service to help keep cats with behavior issues from losing their homes. Through our certified Counselor, we can provide answers to those tough questions of why our cats do what they do (especially when they do "it" on the rug instead of in the litter pan). It's a free service and if you need help you can contact us at info@kittenassociates.org

We also aid other rescues or people who have fallen on hard times provide for their cat's care. While our resources are limited, we always do our best to find a solution, including getting help for 22 unsprayed cats in one home.

This year we expanded our foster home network so we can do more. Our hope is that one day soon to be able to make over our very worn down foster room. We want to turn it into an enriched environment that's easier to maintain and can hold more kittens, safely. Two Kittens, Twenty-One Toes!

Born on April Fools Day 2016, Annie Jones & her brother, Andy aren't joking about their massive paws. They each have 21 total toes! Most cats only have 18. Having extra toes is called, Polydactyl. We call it CUTE! ANdy paws

Annie and Andy are available for adoption RIGHT NOW so hurry and put in your adoption application because these two cuties are going to get adopted fast. They're friendly, confident, affectionate, playful, curious and adorable. They've even lived with and bossed around two big dogs!

We realize it's asking a lot, but we're determined to find ONE home for BOTH kittens. If you're an approved adopter, we'll drop their adoption fee to just $200 for BOTH kittens. They're fully vetted, have their vaccinations done, and have been spayed, neutered and microchipped.
