What's New?

Three Cheers for Kitten Associates!

We're so thrilled to have reached this important milestone and even more thrilled that nearly 400 cats are alive today because of our efforts. Our dream began with the hopes that we could make a difference, educate people about appropriate feline nutrition, cat behavior, and raise the bar on what a truly healthy rescue cat looks like.

We've had plenty of challenges along the way, some absolute heartbreak, as well as a few very big honors. This is our life's passion and we hope with your continued support that we will be able to continue on to our tenth anniversary one day.

Happy Anniversary KA web site copy

What we need now are FOSTER HOMES, VOLUNTEERS (to take on a variety of duties from simply playing with our foster cats to helping write Grants, set up events, plan fundraisers). Basically anything you can do well, I bet it would help us grow a stronger, more vital rescue, too! Please visit the VOLUNTEER page to learn more!

I'd like to THANK our Volunteers & Staff for their excellence, their compassion for cats, and for their friendship. We do this together-it really takes a village to keep the kitties fed and healthy.

First morning after surgery
Freya had a 10% chance to survive a dangerous birth defect. With round-the-clock care and a few trips to Boston for surgery, Freya survived and is about to celebrate her first birthday. We never let cost prevent us from caring for our foster kittens. Each cat in our care gets whatever they need, whatever it takes.

Also, a huge THANK YOU to our donors, who shared with us not only funds, but cat toys, beds, towels, cat food, medicine, covered vet care costs. You keep us afloat and we are SO GRATEFUL not only for your support, but your friendship, too. THANK YOU for being there for us on the dark days and for cheering us on.

2014 04 23 Mia and Boys
Mia, a stray feral, gave birth to five healthy kittens. If we hadn't stepped in, this story would have had a very sad ending. One of the things we love doing most is providing a safe harbor for pregnant cats or cats with kittens. After all we have to live up to our name!

As we begin our sixth year serving the communities of Sandy Hook and Newtown, CT, stay tuned for more announcements regarding just how we plan on celebrating our Anniversary (hint: you'll love it!).

We're Ready for Our Forever Families to Find Us!

Lucy (right) and brother Lolli (left) are among the many kitties we have who are still looking for their forever homes. Could you be the one?

Perfect family-cat, Laney (center) with her kittens Lucy (left) and Lex (right), love their iPad game now that everyone is feeling great again. They all had the sniffles for about a week, but are fully recovered now.

Lollipop (below) is one of Laney's other sons. He's almost identical to his brother, JellyBelly. The only difference is Lolli has a little white patch of fur on his chest called a "locket."

JellyBelly is our sleek black panther with a silly single white whisker. He's very playful and along with his brother, Lolli, are our best athletes. They can easily jump nearly 5 feet off the ground! Jelly is photographed with his "niece" Piglet.

Our Sick Kittens Need You!

Oh no!! Our family of foster kittens are sick—ALL 9 of them!

Double Troubles R Olson 650

We spent 5 out of the last 6 days going to the vet, doing tests, getting medications for our sick foster kitties. It appears they got sick within one hour of reaching us after their long trip from Georgia. We are devastated to see these animals suffering so much and are working round-the-clock to ensure they get the care they need.

But we can't do it without you. Last week's vet care costs was $900 and this week may be just as bad. Without your loving support we might have to cut corners and for vet care that's something we just can't do.

Thanks to a generous donor, all donations up to $500 will be MATCHED dollar for dollar so your donation will go twice as far. Please use the DONATE TODAY button to the right to make your donation or you can mail a check to: Kitten Associates, P.O. Box 354, Newtown, CT 06470-0354.

We're Thrilled!

Last month we found out we were awarded one of the Top 50 Pet Charities by Entirely Pets! WOWIE! We're in amazing company and are very honored by this recognition.

Blizzard Colbie

We're expecting 18"-24" of snow between today and tomorrow. For that reason, we will be shutting down operations until Weds., January 28th OR LONGER if we LOSE POWER. We will answer calls if possible, but please understand we have no way to get OUT to help you with your cat until all roads are open and safe to travel on and our driveway is plowed out.

We may lose internet access and/or phones so please do not contact us regarding urgent matters. If it's a health emergency with your cat, please contact Newtown Veterinary Specialists at 203-270-8387.

We hope you'll all be safe, stay home and snuggle with your kitties until the good weather returns!

Also, Lady Saturday's dental cleaning has been postponed a week so there's still time to help with donations towards her MUCH NEEDED care. Thank you very much!

Help Saturday Smile Again

Lady Saturday, our sweet senior rescue has suffered a great deal in the short time she's been in our care. Nearly starved to death when we got her, Lady S.required over 3 weeks of intensive care with our Vet before she was stable enough to go into foster care.

Saturday Eyes ER

Lady S., who may be up to 15 years old, has surprised and delighted us by growing stronger every day. Her latest blood work revealed that all systems are functioning normally and because she's doing well she is finally able to handle the last thing on our "to do" list for her care.

Lady S. MUST have a dental cleaning, along with extractions, no doubt, because her mouth is a nightmare of tartar covered teeth and painful lesions from so many years of neglect. We estimate it will cost about $750.00 (with our discount), but it could easily go beyond that once our Vet gets a better look at Lady S's. mouth.

We hope you'll be able to share your love for Saturday with a small gift in honor of a senior cat you loved, or just because being part of Saturday's rescue matters. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization so your donation is tax deductible. Our EIN is: 27-3597692

You can click on the "DONATE TODAY" button to the right to share your gift or you can mail a check to: Kitten Associates, P.O. Box 354, Newtown, CT 06470-0354 with a note that it should be for "Saturday."

Thank you for caring about our girl. She's truly a sweet soul and we can't wait to help her smile again with shiny clean teeth!

The New Year & the New Arrivals

We had a great 2014, filled with rescues, but a few too many vet runs. We ended the year saving 65 lives, a few shy of our goal, but every save matters.

Our newest arrivals, available for adoption are Jasmine (top left), Jules (top right), Josh (bottom left) and Junipurr (bottom right). All are about 9 months old and are VERY mellow and affectionate. They don't mind getting their claws trimmed and Josh likes to give kisses.

The two kitties on the top of the image are girls and the bottom kitties are boys. They're vetted, microchipped and ready to rumble! If you'd like to know more about them or are interested in applying to adopt them, just pop over to our ADOPT page for more detail and to fill out a Pre-Adoption Form.

We wish you all a Happy New Year and may all our kitties know good health and lots of love.

Adopt One Kitten, Get the Second Free!

We want ALL our foster kittens to find their forever homes by the Holidays so that's why we're cutting our regular adoption fee of two kittens down from $175 to just $125! And that's FULLY VETTED kittens, too, which is a HUGE savings over what you'd pay to have your cat spayed, vaccinated, tested for FIV/FeLV and microchipped.

In addition to the kittens already listed on our web site, we have MORE arriving later this month so we need to make some room! Can you help us out by spreading the word on social media or telling your cat-loving friends?

Please consider a gift in honor of a beloved pet or family member (we'll send a card acknowledging your gift if requested) or a gift just because you love what we're doing and want to share that during this special time of the year.

You can make a donation using the icon to the right that says "Donate Today" or go to our Donate page.

Gifts sent as checks can also be mailed to Kitten Associates, P.O. Box 354, Newtown, CT 06470-0354 or if you enjoy shopping, visit our Amazon.com WishList where you'll find gifts you can choose for our kittens that fit any budget (and we ALWAYS NEED CAT FOOD!).

2014 Dogtime Pettie Award for Best Cause Blog Goes to...

Shocked, honored and delighted to win our first Pettie Award! Thank you Dogtime Media and all our friends who voted for our little rescue and who believe in what we do.

We'd also like to Congratulate and Thank Ingrid King, who writes The Conscious Cat and Angie Holland Bailey, who writes Texts from Mittens who also won in their categories. Part of their award is a $1000.00 donation to any rescue or shelter and they both chose Kitten Associates. This means that today we have $3000.00 we can put towards our rescue efforts.

We couldn't be more pleased and grateful for all your support. THANK YOU ALL!
